Caving under Budapest

Hungary's capital, Budapest, is famous for its thermalwater all over the world. Many people visit our famous thermalbaths but only few of them know, that these hot water rushing up from the depth created something else, too.

In the limestone mountains, under Budapest, the thermalwater formed huge cavesystems, which as it is supposed can be longer than 100 km. The spas and caves of Budapest are planned to be declared a part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The longest cave of Budapest is the 19 kilometres long Pálvölgyi-Mátyás hegyi cavesystem located in the area of the Duna-Ipoly National Park. It is a real multi-level labyrinth-system with most of its chambers reaching under the elegant residental districts of the city.

If you haven't got claustrophobia and you are sporty enough, you can apply for our permanently starting cavetours, which are guided by qualified cavers.

You don't need to have any previous experience in caving.

Come to climb and crawl with us in the labyrinth of Mátyás cave in Budapest (the cave not open for public).

Join our 2,5-3 hours long tour to the multi-level cave system of the Buda side of the Danube.
You often have to climb on walls, crawl through narrow passages, or get down to your hands knees so you will get a sense of adventure.

You will be supplied with overalls, helmets and lights, and as the temperature inside is 10 C (50 F) all year, a light pullover or a t-shirt is enough to wear under the overall. You need boots or trainers for the tour, sandals and thongs are not suitable.

Usually we have tours on mondays, wendesdays, fridays, late in the afternoon.

You can only take part in the tour at your own risk.
